Inked- Part 2

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. -1 Corinthians 6:19–20

To mark flesh,

To mark beauty

Of forever scars,

Of tales of trials.

We pain for stains,

We surrender splendor

For distinctive attributes,

For therapeutic means.

We disobey laws,

We defy commandments

By destroying our temples

To further our desires.

To be marked of sin,

To be marked of offense

Done by His children

To free them from evil doing.

Inked- Part 1

Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD. – Leviticus 19:28

You grin at me

My spine shivers with fear

Anticipation of your damage

I’m intoxicated with antiseptics

Commemorated by buzzing melodies

Dyed bullets fire

I’m injured, bleeding of your victory

As you dress my wound

Fireplace

Chills of despair

Shivers of unaccomplished aspirations

Trapped in rectangular barriers

Then a spark is lit

Warming the embers of adolescent fears

Calming the nerves that are kindled by constant worries

Its flame starts to grow

The luminosity attracts stares of hope

Creating a gathering of oxygen fueled breaths

The smoke spills into the lungs

Igniting an ardor inside the soul

Its burn scorches the layers of the past

Illuminating the fresh flares that exist in the rebirth

The intensity starts to melt the doubters’ lenses

Causing a backing away, a revolt

But the radiant inferno continues to sparkle

In its containment in the fireplace

What It’s In?

It’s in the days you feel most alone.

It’s in the days you wonder if he still thinks about you.

It’s in the days you are unrecognizable to yourself.

It’s in the days you feel unrewarded for your acts.

It’s in the moments we can’t find the words to say.

It’s in the moments we feel too embarassed to be truthful.

It’s in the moments we feel most nostalgic and regretful.

It’s in the moments we come face to face with the transgressions of others.

It’s in His love I find a friend.

It’s in His love I feel reassured.

It’s in His love I am rewarded with confidence.

It’s in His love I learn forgiveness and truth.

It’s in His love where you will feel loved.

It’s in His love where we learn how to love.

It’s His love that I will love with.
